Poem A Day December 21st

Cellar Door

By Jackie Fedyk

(A poem based on random words of beauty and hate.)

Cellar Door

Poor little Rose was warned not to explore

What was beyond the cellar door

Calamity grows closer with each downward stride

Shadows grow taller and illumination hides

Through the old wooden doors into the dwelling’s undercarriage

Nightmare and gloom join together in unholy marriage

Doesn’t Rose know curiosity killed the cat?

Precipitous darkness strikes her with a rat-a-tat-tat

Monstrous hands reach for her fast as a lynx

Rose should have listened to warnings methinks
